Join The Texas Tribune at noon Central on Jan. 24 in Austin for a conversation with Kirk Watson, who will talk about what he plans to do as mayor of Austin, what his experience in the Legislature has taught him since his last tenure as mayor and what he’s looking to come from the 2023 legislative session.Â
The last time Kirk Watson was elected to be Austin’s mayor, the city looked much different from how it looks today. Which challenges would he say Austin has successfully overcome, and what is the city still working to solve?
Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. at the Tribune’s Studio 919, 919 Congress Ave., Sixth Floor, in Austin.
The hourlong conversation will begin at 12:00 p.m. Parking will not be provided. Street and garage parking as well as ride-sharing are recommended.
This in-person event will be simultaneously streamed for virtual attendees and will be available to watch on demand afterward at texastribune.org/events.
Watson served as mayor of Austin from 1997-2001 and in the Texas Senate from 2007-20. He also served as the first dean of the University of Houston's Hobby School of Public Affairs. Watson has chaired both the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce and the Texas Advisory Board of Environmental Defense and received the president’s citation from The University of Texas at Austin.
